Friends, Zachary Schomburg is going on a poetry tour of the United States in support of his new book, The Book of Joshua (and he’ll also be selling the new book of Wong May’s poems that he published, as well as a handful of portraits of poets [POETRAITS]). To do so, he bought a van with a tape deck. So make him a mix tape and take it to one of the readings. I did. And look how great I turned out.

If you make a tape, snap a photo of the cassette and the playlist and Kate Bingaman-Burt will draw an illustration of it. It won’t be a “doodle”. If you call it a doodle, Kate will murder you. Also, I stole her stationery from her studio to make this playlist, please don’t tell her.

Oh, and it’s worth noting that Zach read his book in its entirety last night and the thing is beautiful and sad and violent and you should really buy the thing because it’s great.

Episode 1 - Laserflicks

Folks, Gregor and I helped out as consulting producers on this audio show. We had a lot of fun, but keep in mind, WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT WE’RE DOING. Take a listen, if you please.

Near the end of Weschler’s “Uncanny Valley: Adventures in Narrative”, you’ll find a piece entitled Double Vision about a set of twin artists, Ryan and Trevor Oakes, who have been studying visual perception since childhood. It’s truly amazing and you ought to read it.
Or at least look into them.

Affirmation Hotline

This weekend at Open Engagement, Lisa sat (stood?) as the public face for our new project AFFIRMATION HOTLINE. We built an automated phone system to mollify your nervous heart.

We’re leaving the hotline up until we run out of funding (likely through the end of the year), and we’re going to tweak it a bit here and there to make it better.

Call or text 503-360-WELL if you need to be affirmed.
